Metasaurs are kings of the metaverse, but their arms are a little small to do secure random selection on-chain.
That’s why we are excited to announce that we are using Chainlink Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF) to fairly select a winner in our post-mint drawing.
Metasaurs are one of the fastest-growing NFT communities in history AND prehistory. The NFTs were created by Dr. DMT as a MetaDNA experiment to create dinosaurs living on the Ethereum blockchain, this time forever. The first hybrid Metasaurs species DNA is composed of 50% T-Rex and 50% BAYC Ape #4588, giving them Bored Ape intelligence and style, combined with the speed and apex predator instincts of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The mint begins on October 13th, 2021 @ 12:00am-11:59pm (entire day) for BAYC Whitelist members and General Whitelist members. The remainder of the Metasaurs will be available for the public to mint on October 14th, 2021 @ 5pm EST.
After all 9,999 Metasaurs have been minted, the Metasaurs team will conduct a drawing from all wallets holding a Metasaur NFT who are automatically entered into the giveaway in addition to the general public who can enter until October 17th at 5:00pm EST by registering here. Chainlink VRF will be used to generate a secure and provably fair random number, which we will use to select an entrant. We will then announce one entrant as the winner of the 2021 Ford Raptor Truck (MSRP $65,840 USD) and customize the truck with winning Metasaurs art.
Given the unprecedented excitement around the Metasaurs launch, we wanted a secure and transparent method for conducting the giveaway. However, it can be challenging to obtain access to an unbiased source of randomness that users can verify. For example, on-chain RNG solutions like blockhashes introduce vulnerabilities where miners can choose to publish a block only when this would generate more favorable results for themselves. On the other hand, off-chain RNG solutions are opaque, requiring users to trust that the centralized data provider won’t manipulate the results to their benefit. Both solutions become increasingly concerning as the amount of value increases—in this case, a custom-branded truck.
To show our commitment to fair and secure infrastructure for our community, we are using Chainlink Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF), a highly secure randomness solution that is purpose-built for smart contracts and already secures a significant amount of value for other blockchain-based gaming applications.
Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node's pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Metasaurs smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This helps provide users with automated and publicly verifiable proof directly on-chain that using Chainlink VRF for randomness is provably fair and cannot be tampered with or predicted by the oracle, outside entities, Dr. DMT, or the Metasaurs team.
